Me and my Tern

Hello there. It’s been a while since I posted anything but I’ve been a little busy –  my Tern and I have been having us a few adventures, see. She’s a breath of fresh air – she keeps me fit and young so I’ve been taking her sweet ass everywhere I can – and she is quite a looker too, I’ll have you know. (See how I made that sound like a dirty old man talking about his illegally-young girlfriend?). Thought it would be funny but it’s actually just gross. I see that now.

My Tern gets her custom-made basket

Nevertheless, she needs to be kept a close eye on. Just last weekend, I rode her to Starling & Hero (at the Woodstock Exchange in Albert Road where I originally purchased her) to collect her custom-made basket, some funky lights and an old-school, silver bell. What a great ride! (It was just a little scary riding past the infamous Gympie Street but when riding in/through dodgy areas, I find that speed is your friend). So, as I was riding along with Bon Iver making sweet love to one of my ear drums (one ear open for traffic sounds and the other, filled with this bittersweet yet enchanting melody), all kinds of people were whistling at my girl and trying to get her attention. (I reckon I need to give her a name at some point?). It was a little funny at first but then it just got downright distracting, particularly when a weird-looking guy in a bakkie stopped at a robot and voraciously barked out an offer to buy my sweet, little lady, right there on the spot – “with the basket” nogal. Really? How rude! My Tern and I clearly have a ‘thing’ going on – and you can’t put a price on that kind of happiness.

So, we got to Starling & Hero in one (happy) piece and proceeded to kit My Lady (I can’t call her that, right – too cheesy?) out with her pretty bells and whistles. I got the rubber Knog Frog strobe lights in white (so that it didn’t clash too much with the colours she had on) and a silver bell to bring out the colour in her spokes. With the addition of the basket (custom-made with extra long leather straps), she looked simply ravishing. I’m in love.

Starling & Hero is equally charming too – I simply love that you have a choice of looking at a new or a custom-made, upcycled bicycle – or that you can even just sit down at their little cafe for a smoothie and healthy snack after a bike ride through the city. I’m so taken with the place, I even took the liberty of snapping some pics. Here you go.
